Glashedy View Cottage - Ballyliffin

Sea ViewsOpen Fire

Glashedy View Cottage, named after Glashedy Isle, a prominent barren rock jutting out of the surrounding waters of Pollan Bay, and a visible feature of the area. Situated in the village of Ballyliffin, popular for its well known golf club and course, the cottage  faces spectacular views, with Malin Head, Pollan Beach, Doagh Island, the golf course, and Trawbreaga Bay all in sight. The perfect location for visiting  golf enthusiasts, Ballyliffin is well known, but locally, other courses are also to be found at Buncrana, Greencastle and Redcastle, - and all within less than half an hours drive.

This desirable cottage is not only for golfers, but anyone who enjoys the unspoilt beauty of the Inishowen Peninsula. For the hill walker, this is an excellent base for local walks. An especially recommended but little known walk, is along the impressive coastal cliffs of Binion Hill, just west of Pollan Beach, which itself is a beautiful, unspoilt 2 mile stretch, and only 3 minutes walk away.

Isle of Doagh Visitor Centre

Another nearby attraction not to be missed, is the Isle of Doagh Visitor Centre. Near the golf course.

This unique outdoor museum tells the story of life in this area going back to the Great Famine in the 1840s. A Famine Village and typical dwellings such as Sod or Turf houses from those times can be seen here. A Mass Rock, Presbyterian Meeting House and Orange Hall are also part of the display. The Irish Famine was at its worst between 1845 to 1848 causing the population to drop from 8 to 4 million through death and emigration. During June, July and August, Singers, Musicians and Dancers perform. From Mid November to 24th December the centre transforms and becomes Santas Lapland, an absolute must for young children.

Space does not permit us to list all the attractions and activities of this unique part of Ireland, instead we would invite you to come and see for yourself. You will not be disappointed.

What they say

I like the open plan design of the house. It gives a very large, bright and comfortable atmosphere. Just the right size for a family of 5 plus granny. The views of  Pollan Strand and Glashedy island is magnificent from the conservatory. Seeing the surfs hitting the beach I find it very relaxing. Being within an enclosed housing estate away from the main road makes it safe for children to play outside.
Being close to the beach and Ballyliffin town is a bonus. My kids love walking down to the beach and children's play area. I love taking the dog for his walks along the beach or explore along the cliffs. On a clear day, the sunset and surf is a photographers delight. Took lots of photos of Pollan Strand and Glashedy island. For the golfers there is a golf course nearby. Other towns nearby such as Clonmany or Carndonagh is just a few minutes drive away.
The service provided during our stay is first class. There was a leak in the shower and Madeline was able to get someone to fix it in no time at all. She's a very warm and caring gentle lady.
Overall we enjoyed our stay at Glashedy Views very much and this is our third year. Looking forward to being there
