Cecils Cottage, Ballynarry - Buncrana

On first seeing Cecils Cottages you could be forgiven for thinking that this wonderful traditional style building has been part of the local landscape for generations. Instead it is a new build which tastefully combines the best of old world charm with modern world comforts. It also combines an idyllic coastal setting with the convenience of a vibrant modern town on your doorstep.

The location of the cottage is idyllic. It is situated in a rural landscape just a  100 metres from a lovely sheltered beach on the shores of Lough Swilly and  less than 4km to the centre of Buncrana Town.

Flexible Accommodation :: Sleeps 8 -12

The construct of the holiday cottage actually provides flexible accommodations options. The main part of the building has 3 bedrooms which can accommodate 8 people. There is a ‘settled double bed in the Kitchen and dining area to sleep and extra 2. In addition there is separate Single End to the building which comprises living/kitchen/bedroom area and shower room . This can accommodate 2 people. Both residences will not be let to different clients at the same time – the Single end is just as an added extra for an extra cost to a larger group!

Modern Comforts Amis Old World Charm

On entering through the traditional half door of Cecils Cottage the visitor will find a room that has many of the good features of an old cottage but with added modern comforts. Use of fixtures and fittings like a butter churn, sewing machine, oil lamps and kitchen dresser give an authentic feel to the area. However unlike many older cottage parlours, this main room is bright and airy and well insulated.  A second living room in the cottage is more modern style, but with good reason.  This comfortable room has large conservatory style windows to take full advantage of the breathtaking views of Lough Swilly outside. These views can also be appreciated from the garden and from a raised decking area at the back of the cottage.

The cottage has private access through owner’s field and over a rough lane to Stragill Beach just over 100metres away.  Stragill and the neighbouring Porthaw Beach are lovely sandy beaches on the shores of Lough Swilly.  There is a scenic coastal pathway from Stragill all the way into into Buncrana Town. On the way you pass a local kayak centre (1.5km) and an old Napoleonic era fort at Neds Point

A Great Base to Explore Inishowen and Derry City

Buncrana Town itself has a full range of tourist amenities, as well as fine restaurants and lively bars. The town boasts a leisure centre and swimming pool, golf course, pitch and putt, play park, clean safe sandy beaches and many activities for children.

Cecils Cottage is an ideal base to explore the  Inishowen Peninsula.  The Inishowen 100 scenic drive is now part of Irelands Wild Atlantic Way . Following this route is a great way to see this beautiful part of Ireland. Cecils cottage is also an ideal for those who wish to explore historic Derry City from a more a tranquil base.

Living Space

  Kitchen and Dining Area

The traditional half door of Cecils Cottage opens into a room full of old world charm and character. This room has many of the good features of an Irish cottage -  dresser with earthenware delph, oil lamps, butter churn, narrow slit windows. Unlike many older cottages however, this newly built cottage is well insulated and the main room is  bright and airy with a high ceiling. The lovely galley style cottage kitchen is well equipped for a self catering holiday. The dining area is adjacent to a wood burning stove with a traditional style chimney surround.

  Living Room

In keeping with the design of a traditional Irish cottage most windows in Cecils Cottage are small. The exception is the living room - and there is good reason. The large windows in this comfortable room are designed to let you fully appreciate the wonderful panoramic views of Lough Swilly outside.

  Bedrooms

Using the main cottage and the separate Single End this holiday home has flexible accommodation options sleeping 8 to 12. The accommodation make up is as follows:-

Main Cottage

• Bedroom 1: Double Bedroom with ensuite shower room
• Bedroom 2: Double Bedroom
• Bedroom 3: Double Bedroom with double sofa bed
• Bedroom 4: Traditional Double Settled Bed within Kitchen-Dining area

Single End

• Bedroom 1: Double bed

The main cottage has a bathroom in addition to the ensuite shower in Bedroom 1.

The Single End at Cecils Cottage comprises living/kitchen/bedroom area and a shower room to accommodate 2 people. This cosy accommodation has a separate entrance to the main cottage.

Booking Details

Booking deposit (non-refundable) of €100 per week is required to confirm bookings with balance to be paid six weeks prior to the letting period. check in 4pm, check out no later than 11am; rental Sat – Sat except by special arrangement a security deposit of €200 is required upon key handover and is fully refundable upon departure assuming all is in order ( Note: Both residences - the main cottage and the single end -  will not be let to different clients at the same time – the Single end is just as an added extra for an extra cost to a larger group)
