Antons Cottage - Fanad

Antons Cottage is a traditional Donegal farm cottage that has been in the same family since the early 1800s. It is located on a small hillside overlooking the north western coastline of the beautiful Fanad Peninsula.  

The cottage is situated in the townland of Gortnatra approximately halfway between the Mulroy (Harry Blaney) Bridge and the iconic Fanad Head Lighthouse – a Signature Point on the Wild Atlantic Way

A Restful Getaway

Stay at Antons Cottage and you can be as far from the world as you like.  This quaint holiday home is off the beaten track.  It is situated in rugged countryside but is a short drive to water on all sides -  it is “between the waters “ of Mulroy Bay , with the Atlantic Ocean to the north and the shores of Kindrum Lough just 4km away.

The cottage is also a few minutes drive away from 3 of the most secluded and unspoilt beaches in Donegal – Donaghmore Strand, Sessiagh Beach and Port na Ling Beach.

The cottage is surrounded by heather clad hills and tumbling streams making it ideal for a relaxing holiday in tranquil surroundings.

There are truly amazing sea views and walks direct from the cottage door. With sheep and a few cattle as your neighbours this cottage affords a restful getaway for the keen walker, photographer, artist or angler.

A Traditional Cottage with Modern Comforts

The cottage itself has been recently modernised to provide modern comforts while still retaining the charms of bygone days.  The bedrooms are very traditional.

The main bedroom features an antique double bed and rough stonewalls which have been painted to give the original lime washed look.  Stairs lead to the loft style twin bedroom with a traditional narrow slit window.  Both bedrooms have family artefacts and furniture that have been collected over the years. 

The living room has an open fireplace and features a few family heirlooms including a spinning wheel and a record player. Other artefacts reflect the links with members of the family who emigrated to America.

The sitting–dining room has a Stanley range and a traditional style kitchen dresser. The galley style kitchen is well equipped for a self catering holiday

To enhance the “getaway from it all” experience there is no tv or WiFi in the cottage

The Wild Atlantic Way

The cottage lies just off the route of the Wild Atlantic Way which hugs the coastline of the Fanad Peninsula. The cottage is an ideal base to explore this driving route not just in Fanand  but also on the neighbouring Rosguill and Horn Head Peninsulas.

Although located in a very tranquil countryside setting the cottage is just over 10 minutes drive from the beach and golf resorts of Portslon and Downings and the seaside village of Carrigart.

Living Space

  Bedrooms

The bedrooms in this quaint cottage are a real step back in time. The main bedroom on the ground floor features a beautiful antique double bed.  The room is decorated and adorned in a traditional style. It also enjoys views towards the north Fanad coastline. Stairs lead from the bedroom to a loft style twin bedroom.  Both bedrooms have artefacts that have been collected by the owners family over generations.

  Sitting Room

The centre piece in the cosy sitting - dining room is an oil fired Stanley Range.  The room has a dining table with 4 chairs as well as two comfortable armchairs. Again this room is adorned in a traditional style and has lovely kitchen dresser.

  Living Room

The living room provides a second living space in the holiday home. It features an open fireplace and comfortable sofa and armchair furniture. There is an initial supply of turf for the fire. The living room contains a number of family heirlooms including a spinning wheel and an antique record player as well as other memorabilia on display relating to the history of the cottage.

With no tv this room is ideal for relaxing with a good book in front of an open turf fire

  Kitchen

The galley style cottage kitchen / scullery has free standing appliances including gas cooker, fridge microwave and coffee maker. An adjacent laundry area has a washing machine and tumble dryer.
The kitchen window has views towards the Atlantic Ocean

Booking Details

Booking deposit (non-refundable) of euro100 per week - with balance to be paid six weeks prior to the letting period
