Stone Cottage

Located on an elevated site, overlooking the small fishing harbour of Portronan, Stone Cottage is a spacious, 3-bedroom holiday home with truly spectacular views. From most rooms in the house, there are views of Glashedy Island, Ballyliffin, Fanad Head, the Atlantic Ocean and the rugged coastline of north Donegal.

Local Attractions

It's just a short drive to Malin Head, Ireland's most northerly point. Nearby attractions include Five Finger Strand, Culdaff Beach, Doagh Island Famine Village, Glenevin Waterfall, and Greencastle Maritime Museum while the golf enthusiast is only a 15 min drive away from the fabulous top-rated links course at Ballyliffin.

Malin Head

Malin Head is Ireland's most northerly point, and here the highest point, "Banba's Crown" is named after an early pre-Christian pagan queen. At the summit, a now derelict lookout tower was built in 1805 by the Admiralty and later used as a Lloyds signal station.

The "Inishowen 100" is a drive which takes the visitor on a roughly circular tour of the Inishowen Peninsula, and gets its name from the distance of 100kms, the approximate distance covered if the whole trip is completed.

Ballyliffin and Doagh Island

Near Ballyliffin (and the golf course) on the beautiful Isle of Doagh, a visit to the Isle Of Doagh Visitor Centre is recommended. This unique outdoor museum tells the story of life in this area going back to the Great Famine in the 1840's. A Famine Village and typical dwellings such as Sod or Turf houses from those times can be seen here. The Irish Famine was at its worst between 1845 to 1848 causing the population to drop from 8 to 4 million through death and emigration.

At Greencastle, one can visit the Maritime Museum and planetarium, or take the car ferry across to Magilligan Point over Lough Foyle, and extend the drive on to Port Stewart and Portrush, The Giants Causeway, Dunluce Castle or The Bushmills Distillery - (famous as the world's oldest whiskey distillery.)
