This warm and bright cottage is an original fisherman's cottage that has been lovingly restored. It is one of about 10 original fisherman's cottages in the little clachan (hamlet) of Slievebawn and nestles above the beaches of Sandport and the pier at Portmore, Malin Head.
The living space features an open fireplace, a fitted kitchen, and a dining area. A spacious master bedroom boasts a sliding door with views of lawn and surrounding countryside. The second bedroom comprises twin single beds. Between the two bedrooms, facing the entrance is a neat and clean shower room. The cottage has high vaulted ceilings throughout, providing an airy feeling and the solid pine floor boards ensure warmth and brightness.
The cottage is a two minute walk from two beaches: The picturesque and intimate sandy beach at Sandport and the shingle beach of Portmore beside Malin Head pier which is popular for swimming and diving. In the summer months fresh crab and fish is landed daily at the pier.
The cottage would be suitable for a couple or a family.
An ideal retreat, perhaps for a writer or artist, or a touring base from which to explore this most northern part of Ireland. Pets are welcome for an additional €15 fee.
The cottage is situated at Malin Head, Irelands most northerly point, and is very close to Farrens Bar, which also holds the claim of being Irelands most northerly Pub.
From Banba's Crown, a nearby hill which marks the most northerly point with an old Lloyd's look-out tower, there are spectacular coastal views to the north, east and west, and inland views of the Inishowen hills to the south.
For the more active; walking is an ideal pursuit, and the area has some spectacular and challenging walks. One popular coastal walk along the cliffs, is from Banba's Crown to Devils Bridge and Hells Hole; from where one can have views of Inishtrahull Island and Scotland on a clear day.
After about 90 minutes, refresh yourself on your return, with a pint of Guinness at Irelands most northerly bar; Farrens Bar, followed by a visit to The Seaview Tavern maybe for a meal.
Golf can be played, after a twenty five minute drive, at the famous Ballyliffin Golf Club, with its two links courses. Inishowen offers other golf courses at Buncrana, Greencastle and Redcastle.
Near the golf course, on The Isle of Doagh; visit the Famine Village. This is a unique outdoor museum, with models and displays telling the story of life in Ireland during the 1840's when the great famine occurred.
Take a drive on the route known as the "Inishowen 100". This is a scenic drive which takes you on a tour around the Inishowen Peninsula, following a roughly 100 mile journey that provides some of the most spectacular scenery to be seen anywhere in Ireland.
The drive will take you through all the major towns and villages in the area, you will see forests, barren bog land, sea cliffs, rugged mountains and soft rolling hills. Amazing coastal sea-scapes and inland views: You will stop many times to enjoy it all.
Just take a camera and your walking shoes

I travel a lot so I'm always looking for interesting places to stay - anything to avoid another carbon copy hotel - and this has got to be one of the best local travel sites I've seen. Plenty of detail, tons of photos, excellent location info and clear pricing - everything I need to make an informed call. Great job and I'll be recommending the site to anyone else I know who's travelling in Donegal.
