Muckish View Cottage - Creeslough

Cot & Highchair

Muckish View Cottage is a 4 bedroom holiday home with a lovely countryside setting inland from the coastal village of Creeslough in North Donegal. The cottage is framed by the iconic Muckish Mountain to one side and by Cnoc an Ti - a foothill of Muckish - which rises from the tree lined back yard of the cottage

With mountains to the front and side and mature trees and hedges surrounding the property the result is a wonderfully private setting – perfect for a relaxing getaway. To enhance this experience there’s no TV or WiFi to distract from the surrounding beauty.

A Railway Walk on Your Doorstep

The old abandoned Donegal Railway line from Letterkenny to Burtonport actually passes through the cottage grounds and it is possible to walk along the route of the railway all the way to Falcarragh. This walk passes through beautiful unspoilt countryside with Muckish Mountain ever present in the background.

Muckish Mountain

A short drive from the front door takes you to the main access point for climbing Muckish Mountain itself. It is known as the Miners Path and is a route to the summit up the northern side of the mountain. High-grade quartz sand was mined on the flanks of the mountain and the remains of the quarry workings can be seen on route to the summit.

A Walkers Paradise

Muckish is the most northern and second highest of the mountain chain called the "Seven Sisters" by locals. The Seven Sisters are Muckish, Crocknalaragagh, Aghla Beg, Ardloughnabrackbaddy, Aghla More, Mackoght, and Errigal. A challenging walk is from Muckish to Errigal to include all the peaks of the "Seven Sisters" - locally this is known as the Glover Highlander Walk. Its a long hike but rewarded with stunning views.

Ards Forest Park

A 5 minute drive from the front door brings you to Ards Forest Park - a wonderland for walkers cyclists and nature lovers at any time of the year. The park covers approximately 480 hectares (1200 acres) and includes a variety of habitats, among them sand dunes, beaches, salt marshes, salt water lakes, rock face and, of course, coniferous and deciduous woodlands. There are a large number of signed trails in this park giving the walker the opportunity to explore the various habitats

Ards Friary

Adjacent to the forest park are the beautiful grounds of Ards Friary which are open to the public. From the friary there is coastal footpath along the shores of Sheephaven Bay offering stunning views at every turn. Both the forest park and friary have seasonal coffee shops.

Creeslough and Surrounding Area

Muckish View Cottage is 5 km from Creeslough. The village has several shops, pubs and cafes. The Wild Atlantic Camp on the edge of the village has a pitch and putt course and a children's playground featuring a zip wire, monkey bars and a 10 meter tall rope climbing frame.
Lough na Toohey is a 15 acre stocked Rainbow Trout fishery on the outskirts of the village. There are also 2 fishing lakes located closer to the cottage - Lough Agher and Lough Naboll. The enchanting Doe Castle on the shores of Sheephaven Bay is just 3km from Creeslough.

Dunfanaghy, Portnablagh and Marble Hill

From the tranquil base of Muckish View Cottage is is only a 10 minute drive to  the popular beach resorts of Marble Hill, Portnablagh and Dunfanaghy. Marble Hill Strand and Killahoey Beach in Dunfanaghy are both Blue Flag Beaches while Pornablagh with its quaint harbour is a popular boating and angling centre. In this area there is a wide choice of cafes, craft outlets, pubs, art galleries and water-sports centers. Dunfanaghy also has an equestrian centre and a fine 18 hole links golf course as well as several renowned annual music festivals

Glenveagh National Park

The majestic Glenveagh National Park in the heart of the Donegal Highlands is just over 17km away. This park contains a quaint Scottish style Castle, visitor centre, wonderful gardens and 16,000 hectares of mountains, glens and lakes. It is another wonderland for hill climbers, ramblers and cyclists.

What they say

I travel a lot so I'm always looking for interesting places to stay - anything to avoid another carbon copy hotel - and this has got to be one of the best local travel sites I've seen. Plenty of detail, tons of photos, excellent location info and clear pricing - everything I need to make an informed call. Great job and I'll be recommending the site to anyone else I know who's travelling in Donegal.
