Inishcoo House

Inishcoo House is a beautifully restored 18C coastguard house standing alone on an uninhabited 109 acre island. Inishcoo Island is just 5 minutes boat ride from the fishing village of Burtonport on the mainland. The house has been partly rebuilt and refurbished as a comfortable eco-house but retains its unique character.

The large south-facing terrace looks out over the beautiful bay. The house and surrounding garden are completely enclosed and safe for wandering children. Beyond the old stone wall surrounding the garden are another 6 acres of enclosed private grounds where children can play among the wild flowers and boulders.

There are 4`glorious sandy beaches on Inishcoo Island. Near Beach, the closest to the house, stretches out right to Eighter Island at low tide: swimming, rock climbing, gathering seashells and cockles, rock climbing and sandcastles…there is always something to do! On the opposite side of the island (about 20 minutes’ walk) lies Bottom beach, a beautiful and wonderfully secluded little bay with crystal clear water. Further on, Shipwreck Beach is the place for seashells, wild mussels, smooth pebbles…and a small shipwreck of our own.

The island offers plenty of wonderful walks inland amongst giant boulders nestled in purple heather. There is a freshwater lake where birds come to fish, a marshy bog dotted with wild iris and a craggy shoreline on the eastern side of the island.

For those who want to explore Donegal, some of the wildest and most beautiful scenery in Ireland awaits them. Mountain ranges, deep lakes, the tallest cliffs in Europe, mile-long sandy beaches, legendary links golf courses, old pubs: everything is here to make this holiday completely unique!

    What they say

“ We had an ideal getaway on Inishcoo. We had a very large group and there was a bed for everyone and loads of space. Oscar dropped us over on his boat and was very accommodating and friendly, giving us tips on what to do on the area and showed us around the house. There were sea kayaks that we were able to use and visit the nearby beaches, some of which were the nicest I've ever been on. I would highly recommend Inishcoo and look forward to visiting again in the future.”
