Donegal Town is a busy shopping and tourist town where the River Eske flows into Donegal Bay. The town is steeped in history. Donegal Castle, more correctly called O'Donnell's Castle, is located just off the Diamond and is probably the towns most popular attraction. The Castle is furnished throughout and includes Persian rugs and French tapestries. Information panels chronicle the history of the Castle.
A great way to see Donegal town is to follow the Tourist Trail, a signposted walking tour which begins in the Diamond, a square designed in the 1600s. The Tourist trail is clearly signposted and includes such attractions as the Castle, various churches and a Napoleonic anchor retrieved from the sea in the 1850s.
The streets which radiate from the Diamond were laid out to the plans of Sir Basil Brooke, the last owner of the castle. A 25ft obelisk erected in the Diamond in 1937 commemorates Donegal's famous 17th century historians, four Franciscan monks who wrote the 'Annals of the Four Masters' (1632-36), a history of Ireland from early times. The ruins of their Abbey are located at the quays just a short walk from the holiday home
The Donegal Bay Waterbus is based at the Quays. This spacious, fully equipped vessel offers daily 75 to 80 minute tours of Donegal Bay with its many islands and abundant wildlife. In the Diamond is the renowned Magee of Donegal. The store has always been famous for its own hand-woven tweeds but also stocks other leading brands. On the outskirts of the Town is the Donegal Craft Village which specialises in contemporary Irish arts, crafts and design.
There are a number of major tourist attractions in the immediate environs of Donegal Town including a fabulous Blue Flag Beach and a wonderful 18 championship golf links course – both located at nearby Murvagh. To the north of the town is the dramatic Barnesmore Gap and the beautiful Lough Eske. There are two first class hotels located on the shores of Lough Eske – Harveys Point and Solis Lough Eske Castle. The Bluestack Way is a renowned walking trail that passes along Lough Eske and into the Bluestack Mountains.
Hillside Home is ideally situated to explore the Wild Atlantic Way in South and South West Donegal. All along the coast from the surfing resort of Bundoran to the Gaeltacht village of Glencolmcille there are numerous sandy beaches, hidden coves, small harbours, rocky headlands and dramatic cliffs. The spectacular cliffs at Sliabh League are a Signature Point on the Wild Atlantic Way

I travel a lot so I'm always looking for interesting places to stay - anything to avoid another carbon copy hotel - and this has got to be one of the best local travel sites I've seen. Plenty of detail, tons of photos, excellent location info and clear pricing - everything I need to make an informed call. Great job and I'll be recommending the site to anyone else I know who's travelling in Donegal.
