Dunlewey Lodge - Dunlewey Co Donegal Ireland

Dunlewey Lodge is a beautiful 3 bedroom holiday home close to the Wild Atlantic Way situated in a magnificent location at the foothills of Errigal Mountain the holiday home enjoys sweeping panoramic views over the majestic Dunlewey Lake towards the Derryveagh Mountains and into the hauntingly beautiful Poison Glen with Glenveagh National Park nearby.

This well appointed holiday home has comfortable accommodation for up to eight people. The three bedrooms are ensuite. Bathroom on ground floor adjoining twin bedroom. All bedrooms are to the front of the house together with the living and dining rooms and enjoy wonderful lake and mountain views.   These views can also be enjoyed from the landscaped grounds around the house. A mountain stream flows through these well maintained grounds.

Idyllic Location

The location of Dunlewey Lodge is truly idyllic. It is 200 metres from the shores of Dunlewey Lake. The holiday home looks directly across the lake towards a mature woodland with the Derryveagh Mountains in the background. The holiday home is 1km from the entrance to the stunning Poison Glen –an entrance marked by iconic Church ruins. The Poison Glen itself leads into the majestic Glenveagh National Park – one of the jewels of Irish Tourism. 

Just 2km along the lake from Dunlewey Lodge is the fabulous Dunlewey Centre – a cultural and family activity centre with a modern concert venue. Facilities at centre include weaving displays, craft shop, restaurant, boat trips, lakeside walks and indoor and outdoor play areas.  There are regular traditional music sessions throughout the holiday season as well as concerts by national and international artists.

Dunlewey Lodge is also ideally located to explore the beautiful West Donegal coastline.  Within half an hours drive there are several top class beaches including Magheraclogher Strand in Bunbeg, Port Arthur Strand in Derrybeg and the fabulous Blue Flag Carrickfinn Beach near Annagry. Fishing is available in the nearby Clady and Crolly rivers and on the lake at Loughanure. There are scenic 9 hole golf courses in Gweedore  Dunfanaghy and on Cruit Island. Just 5km from the holiday home is An Clachán Art and Craft Gallery. An Clachán consists of a gift gallery along with 4 beautiful working artist studios. The spacious gift gallery is packed with amazing hand made crafts such as ceramics, baskets, art, photography, jewellery, cards and much more. An Clachán is located beside An Chuirt Hotel which has a modern leisure centre with swimming pool.

A Great Base for Ramblers and Hill Walkers

With its location in the Donegal Highlands, Dunlewey Lodge is an ideal base for keen ramblers and hill walkers. Errigal mountain rises up  2,400 ft  directly behind the holiday home. With its distinctive conical shaped quartzite summit Errigal was voted 'Ireland's Most Iconic Mountain' by Walking & Hiking Ireland in 2009. Errigal is also the most southern, steepest and highest of the mountain chain, called the "Seven Sisters" by locals. The Seven Sisters includes Muckish, Crocknalaragagh, Aghla Beg, Ardloughnabrackbaddy, Aghla More, Mackoght and Errigal. The holiday home is also close to the perimeter of Glenveagh National Park which contains much of the Derryveagh Mountains.  

Passing close by the front door of the holiday home is the route of Slí an Earagail. The Slí an Earagail waymarked way is richly varied and traverses through landscapes that represent the best in Donegal scenery, including a path through moorland just beneath Errigal, stretches beside Dunlewey Lake and the neighbouring  Lough Nacung – as well as sections along spectacular island-scattered Atlantic sea coast of north west Donegal.

The bright living room in Dunlewey Lodge is located to the front of the house and enjoys panoramic views over Dunlewey Lake towards the Derryveagh Mountains. The room is comfortably furnished and has a wood burning stove with restored pitched pine flooring. For home entertainment there is a tv dvd player and cd/radio. The living room opens out to a large dining room which also has stunning lake views. Glass patio doors lead from the dining area to the landscaped grounds outside with bridged stream.

  Kitchen

The kitchen is to the back of the holiday home and the window at the kitchen sink looks out towards Errigal Mountain. This well equipped kitchen has an electric oven and gas hob, dishwasher, microwave and fridge freezer. There is also a washing machine and tumble dryer available.

Booking Details

Booking deposit (non-refundable) of euro 200 per week - with balance to be paid six weeks prior to the letting period.

Damage deposit (refundable) of euro 200 payable on arrival.
