Denis's Cottage - Ardara

Denis’s Cottage is a restored farm cottage with a wonderfully tranquil location along a narrow winding road halfway between the Heritage town of Ardara and the coastal Town of Killybegs. The cottage is situated at the foot of the hills that form the eastern boundary of the dramatic Glengesh Pass

A Tranquil Base to Explore South West Donegal

This charming holiday cottage combines the ease of modern living with the charm of a bygone era.  It provides a tranquil base from which to explore the beauty of South West Donegal – from the majesty of the Slieve League Cliffs to the sandy beaches and rocky headlands along the Wild Atlantic Way in this part of Ireland.

Denis’s Cottage has 3 bedrooms to sleep 5 comfortably.  The bedrooms share a bathroom with bath and overhead shower. The cosy living room with dining area features a wood burning stove.

The kitchen is well equipped for a self catering holiday. Old style ornaments, pictures and crockery add to the cosy feeling of the cottage.

There is a picnic bench on the cottage grounds and an outdoor shed provides storage space for fishing rods, bicycles, hiking gear etc. A small stream flows to the back of the cottage.

The Heritage Town of Ardara

The cottage is just 8km from the Heritage Town of Ardara. Historically the town was the centre of the weaving industry in this part of Donegal. It is also renowned as a base for traditional Irish music. Ardara is well served with shops, pubs, cafes and craft outlets. The town holds a number of festivals throughout the year with the emphasis on music and hill walking.

Fishing is available on River Owenea between Ardara and Glenties. Just 1.5km from the cottage is Lough Adeery - a popular rainbow trout fishery

A Hillwalkers Paradise

The entire region around Denis’s cottage is ideal hill walking and rambling terrain. In the immediate vicinity of the cottage, there are numerous winding country roads and lanes. There are tracks into the hills around the cottage – including to the summit of Cnock na Peiste

The cottage lies close to the route of Slí Cholmcille. This walking route is a 65 km Waynarked Way that connects the main towns and villages of South West Donegal, passing through spectacular unspoilt coastal and mountain landscape, including the lonely valley reaching down to the inlet of Port, and the dramatic valleys of Glengesh and Glencolmcille.

Also in the region is the dramatic  Slieve League Pilgrim Path which takes walkers to the majestic Slieve League sea cliffs. Towering over 600 meters above the sea they are the tallest sea cliffs in Ireland.

Killybegs

The cottage is 12km from Killybegs. As well as being one of Irelands most important fishing ports, Killybegs also offers plenty as a tourist town. Its growing reputation as a watersports and angling centre is assisted by its location on a fine natural harbour which now features a marina.  

Killybegs is well served with shops, pubs, cafe and hotels. Just outside Killybegs, on the coast road to Kilcar, is the Blue Flag Fintra Beach and the renowned Kitty Kellys Restaurant.

This tastefully restored cottage has a very cosy living room with dining area. A wood burning stove provides a warm focal point. The room is comfortably furnished and has a tv and dvd player. The dining area has a table and 5 chairs. The table is adjacent a window offering views of the countryside outside.

  Cottage Kitchen

Appliances available in the cottage kitchen include electric oven with gas hobs, microwave, dishwasher and fridge freezer. A washing machine is located in the outside shed.

Booking deposit (non-refundable) of euro100 per week - with balance to be paid six weeks prior to the letting period
