Cornagill House lies on the Golf Course Road just over 4 km from the centre of Letterkenny - County Donegals main town. The holiday home is situated on an elevated site with scenic views overlooking the southern end of Lough Swilly - an area characterised by a patchwork of fields and gentle rolling hills. Lough Swilly itself extends some 40km to the north, where it opens out to the Atlantic Ocean.
Cornagill House is a traditional two storey Donegal Farmhouse dating back over 100 years. In 2010 the house underwent a major renovation and refurbishment programme. The end result is a bright comfortable holiday home that has managed to keep a strong link with the past by retaining the old style tongue and groove ceilings, open fireplaces and by careful choice of furniture and fittings. The home is maintained to a high standard by the owner who lives close by. (You may be welcomed by the lovely aroma of fresh baked scones or apple-pie on your arrival!)
Accommodation in Cornagill House consists of 3 comfortable bedrooms all located on the first floor. There are two double rooms and a single room. A modern bathroom is located on the same landing. The ground floor has a cosy living room with open fireplace and a modern kitchen and dining area - also with fireplace. The old front porch acts as a utility area. All rooms to the front of the house enjoy lovely views of open countryside and Lough Swilly.
Cornagill House is surrounded on 3 sides by restored outhouses and a modern shed. As well as providing shelter for the holiday home these buildings are ideal for storing such things as bicycles, golf clubs and fishing rods. They also store fuel - wood and coal - for the open fireplaces within the house. A small fenced-in field provides a good sized green area to the front of the house
The nearby Letterkenny Golf Club has a beautiful 18 hole, 6239 yards, Par 70 Parkland Championship course. The course takes advantage of natural variances of elevation with four holes wrapped around the banks of Lough Swilly and the 'top seven' holes affording the golfer a panoramic view of the Lough-side and the picturesque garland hills and wooded countryside. Nestled within 147 acres of tranquil bliss the golfer's game will be shared with no-one but nature and its splendid beauty.
Letterkenny Town Centre is just over 5 minutes by car from the holiday home. This modern town has a 5 screen cinema, indoor play centres, a karting centre, a superb modern leisure centre, a beautiful urban park, An Grianan Theatre, the Regional Cultural Centre and a wide variety of shopping
County Donegal as a whole is renowned for its heritage and for its unspoilt beauty, superb blue flag beaches and rugged landscapes - including the breathtaking Gleanveagh National Park. Cornagill House has a central location in the county and this makes it an ideal base to tour this beautiful part of Ireland. The spectacular landscapes of the Fanad, Rosguill and Inishowen Peninsulas, the unspoilt Donegal Highlands and the ancient and historic walled City of Derry are all with an hours drive of Cornagill House. In addition to having Letterkenny Golf Club on the doorstep, the holiday home is also ideally situated to play the great links courses of Donegal - Portsalon, Rosapenna, Dunfanaghy, Ballyliffin, Murvagh and Narin & Portnoo
Cornagill House has a tranquil rural setting and yet has the benifits of a vibrant modern town a short distance away. Whether you want to enjoy the great outdoors or simply want to unwind and relax this lovely holiday home provides the ideal holiday base.
The bright and cosy living room is decorated in a homely fashion with the open fireplace providing a warm focal point. The brightly painted tongue and groove ceiling together with some fittings and ornaments are gentle reminders of the old farmhouse days. The front window of the living room looks out over unspoilt countryside that gently slopes down to the shores of Lough Swilly.
After the major renovations carried out in 2010 Cornagill House now has a superb kitchen and dining area. To keep a link with a past the old stlye tongue and groove ceiling and the original fireplace and mantlepiece have been retained.
The beautiful kitchen area has an attractive range of contemporary units with stylish worktops, and provides all the high quality appliances you would expect – dishwasher, microwave, fridge/freezer electric oven and hob and coffee machine. The spacious dining area features a solid dining table and 6 comfortable dining chairs. At meal times you can enjoy wonderful views of the patchwork fields and gentle rolling hills on either side of Lough Swilly
