Cashel Cottage, Porthaw - Buncrana

Cashel Cottage Porthaw has a superb beach front location opposite Porthaw Beach just north of Buncrana – the main town on the Inishowen Peninsula. Sheltered by mature trees the cottage looks out over this beautiful beach towards Lough Swilly and the Fanad Peninsula.  Its central location in Inishowen makes it an ideal base to explore this beautiful peninsula. It is also a relaxing base to explore the Historic Walled city of Derry - just 20km (12 miles) away.

Cashel faces west with a magnificent view across Lough Swilly to the hills of Donegal and spectacular sunsets year round.  The house is at the edge of the secluded Porthaw Glen, where an ancient woodland of oak and birch trees lines the valley, and is close enough to the beach to hear the tide lapping the shore.  

The cottage provides a comfortable holiday home with homely furnishings.  All rooms to the front of the cottage enjoy sea views. There are 3 bedrooms that can accommodate up to 6 people, a well equipped kitchen, dining area and living room with open fireplace. The cottage is just a few minutes walk away from the Napoleonic era fort at Ned’s Point and also from a local kayaking centre.

Buncrana:: A Vibrant Town on the Shores of Lough Swilly

Its a short drive by road or a leisurely walk along a coastal path to the centre of Buncrana Town.This vibrant town has a full range of tourist amenities, as well as fine restaurants and lively bars. The town boasts a leisure centre and swimming pool, golf course, pitch and putt, play park, clean safe sandy beaches and many activities for children

The cottage is also an ideal for those who wish to explore historic Derry City from a more a tranquil base. Few places in these islands can offer such a compelling and unique experience for the visitor as the Walled City of Derry - its setting on the steep hills overlooking the wide sweep of the River Foyle, its distinctive architecture and its famous walls all provide enormous appeal.

Local Attractions and Amenities

• Enjoy some of the many fine sandy beaches in and around Buncrana including Lisfannon, Stragill and Crummies Bay
• Visit the Fort and Military Museum at Dunree (10km)
• Visit the newly renovated Isle of Doagh Famine Village near Ballyliffin (25km) This wonderful attraction depicts life in Donegal at different stages throughout history in an informative and enjoyable tour
• Golf at the North West Golf Club at Lisfannon (6km). The internationally renowned Ballyliffin Golf Club is just 22km away.
• Go fishing on the Crana River or at the Pollan / Fullerton Dam
• Take a trip around the famous Inishowen 100.  This is one of Ireland's most scenic drives. The route includes dramatic coastal scenery plus a fine collection of ancient forts and monuments, traditional craft centres, and a dozen or so friendly villages. Scenic highlights include the Gap of Mamore, and Malin Head -  Ireland's most northerly point
• Visit the Inishowen Maritime Museum in Greencastle, which includes a state-of-the-art planetarium
• Go walking on the many coastal pathways, woodland, and hills on the Inishowen Peninsula
• Visit Grianan of Aileach. This is a 5000 year old  neolithic stone fort located on a hilltop at Burt, with commanding views of loughs Foyle and Swilly.
• Take a day trip to the majestic Glenveagh National Park (65km) in the Donegal Highlands.

The cottage kitchen area has an electric oven and hob, microwave, dishwasher and fridge freezer plus all the necessary crockery and cutlery. A washing machine and tumble dryer is also available.
The adjacent dining area has a table and 6 chairs.

  Living Room

This cosy holiday home on  the Porthaw beach front has an open plan living, kitchen and dining area. The living area has an open fireplace, tv, comfortable furniture suite and enjoys views of Lough Swilly.

Booking Details

Booking deposit (non-refundable) of 25% is required to confirm bookings with balance to be paid six weeks prior to the letting period.

• rental Sat – Sat in June, July and August.  Rest of the year; by arrangement
