Aleen Holiday House is a modern 3 bedroom holiday home with a lovely setting on an elevated site just off the wonderfully scenic drive around the dramatic Horn Head Peninsula. From its elevated site the holiday home enjoys panoramic views over Sheephaven Bay and Killahoey Strand towards Dunfanaghy,  Muckish Mountain and the Donegal Highlands beyond

The Beach and Golf Resort of Dunfanaghy

The holiday home is just a 5 minute drive (or a 25 minute walk) from the popular beach and golf resort of Dunfanaghy.  Dunfanaghy is now one of Donegal’s premier holiday destinations. In addition to its Blue Flag Beach and fine 18 hole links golf course, the resort has an abundance of other tourist amenities – lively pubs, shops, craft outlets, art galleries, cafes and restaurants. It also has an equestrian centre and several watersport activity centres.

Portnablagh and Marble Hill

Just a few kilometers beyond Dunfanaghy are 2 more small beach resorts – Portnablagh and Marble Hill.  Portnablagh has a quaint harbour which makes it popular as a sea angling and boating destination. Marble Hill has a fine sheltered beach. Overlooking the beach is the newly refurbished Shandon Hotel which has a state of the art Spa with 8 treatment rooms.

Ards Forest Park

Just beyond Marble Hill is the wonderful Ards Forest Park. The park covers approximately 1200 acres and includes a variety of habitats, among them sand dunes, beaches, salt marshes, salt water lakes and, of course, coniferous and deciduous woodlands. There are a large number of trails in the park giving the walker the opportunity to explore a variety of habitats from foreshore and sand dunes to semi natural oak woodlands on rock outcrops.
Adjacent the park is Ards Friary which was a wonderful coastal footpath along the shores of Sheephaven Bay.

Horn Head

The holiday home is situated close to the start of the scenic drive around the dramatic Horn Head Peninsula You get a real sense of the power of the sea and the resilience of the land on this wild peninsula.

There are two splendid viewpoints, one on the north side where the cliffs dominate the scenery and the other on the south side overlooking Dunfanaghy, with the backdrop of Muckish and the Derryveagh Mountains. Horn Head is also is a noted area for breeding seabirds such as the European Shag and Razorbill.

On the western side of the peninsula is a true hidden gem of Donegal Tourism – Tramore Strand. This pristine and wonderfully secluded beach is over 2 miles long and some local knowledge is required to access it

Wild Atlantic Way

Horn Head is a Discovery Point on the Wild Atlantic Way – Ireland's long distance driving route. Aleen Holiday House is ideally placed to explore the Wild Atlantic Way in North West Donegal – from Bloody Foreland to the dramatic Fanad Head Lighthouse.

Day Trips

There are a number of worthwhile day trips that can be enjoyed from the holiday home. These include the magnificent Glenveagh National Park, the Dunlewey Lakeside Centre, Tory Island and the historic Walled City of Derry.

Letterkenny - Donegal's main shopping town - is 40 minutes drive away and features a multi-screen cinema, theater, county library and museum, Arena 7 Adventure Complex, mini zoo, karting center and the modern Aura leisure centre.
