Luxury, 2 bedroom modern holiday home located opposite beach just outside Killybegs in south Donegal. Fintra is an excellent location for those who want to explore the South West part of beautiful Donegal or for those who want to stroll the two minutes from the house to the beach every day and just while away the hours in the peace and quiet.
Killybegs is situated on County Donegal's South West Coast about 18 miles from Donegal Town. The picturesque approach to the town is dominated by many gentle slopes rolling down to the beautiful Donegal Bay. It is Ireland's premier fishing port and the majority of it's 3000 population are employed in the fishing industry. During the fishing season cargo ships flying flags from all over the world are a common sight in the modern harbour. For decades Killybegs was famous for it's famous hand-tufted carpets, examples of which can be seen in The Vatican and The White House, to mention but a few. For the traveller Killybegs could be described as the gateway to the villages of Kilcar, Carrick, Teelin and Glencolmcille and some of Ireland's most rugged and beautiful scenery and well known Gaeltacht region.
The standard of food in the Clock Tower situated on the compound is usually excellent and very competitively priced. Good selection of specials daily including fresh fish and an A la carte menu available all day.
Other local restaurants include Kitty Kelly’s, a very quaint little cottage style restaurant serving seafood, steaks etc, mid priced. Booking recommended at weekends especially as it is very popular with locals (Tel 074 97 31925) Turn left when you leave the Fintra Bay compound and drive along the road for about 1.5 miles. Located on your right hand side.
Tara Hotel in Killybegs serves food in the bar all day and opens their restaurant for dinner in the evening. Overlooking the harbour, the views are beautiful on a summers evening. Food a la carte and usually quite good with plenty of choice to suit all tastes.
There are two Chinese restaurants in Killybegs, both in the centre of town. Also in Killybegs Town – Restaurant 22 is located on the main street and serves everything from Steak to Seafood to Pizza. Very popular with locals.
For excellent Italian food, a trip to Donegal town is essential - La Bella Donna. This is a very popular restaurant so you must book in advance to be sure of a table.
In Ardara town (10 miles from Killybegs – heading back in the direction of Donegal Town and veer off to the left for Ardara after approx 3 miles). The best All Day breakfast in the county is available at West End Café – on the left hand side after the church, as you approach the main street.
If you wish to go to Kilcar Village, turn left as you leave the compound and drive about 2 miles until you reach the Blue Haven bar and restaurant.
Just after this point take the first left (It’s more a veer to the left as opposed to a left turn) onto a smaller road. This is the coastal Road to Kilcar village and the scenery is spectacular. Also a great place to go walking and Muckross beach is approx 3 miles along this very narrow road.
Continuing on from Kilcar will take you to Carrick town. For a great hike or just to view the scenery, turn left in the centre of Carrick town signposted for Teelin Pier. At the pier, there is a car park where you can then take to foot and climb the Slieve League Sea Cliffs. There is a higher level car park – I don’t recommend driving up – certainly not for the faint hearted – very, very steep climb – so best to have the feet firmly on the ground! The views from on top of Slieve League are spectacular.
The Rusty Mackerel pub is at the foot of the Slieve League – great for a pint of Guinness or Irish Coffee!
By car, Glencolumbkille is a further drive beyond Kilcar and Carrick – the south west point of the county. It has some beautiful beaches and a holiday village for tourists. Approximately 30 minutes drive from Carrick and well worth the trip; the views from the peninsula are spectacular.
For variety and a livelier atmosphere, Ardara town is a must see. (20 mins from Fintra Bay by car) Nancy's Bar is one of the oldest bars in the country and is a must see – it can get busy at the weekends and the bar itself is tiny but the owners have recently extended out the back so there are more tables available there. Sample the seafood, great Guinness, Irish coffee and in the evenings, great impromptu music sessions. For formal traditional music sessions in the evenings - THE CORNER HOUSE in Ardara provides entertainment on most nights and certainly at weekends.
The kitchen comes fully equipped for your convenience.
- electric cooker
- fridge freezer
- microwave and dishwasher
- washing machine and tumble dryer
The comfortable living room is located to the side of the house and has patio doors leading to the elevated deck area outside. For your entertainment tv and dvd are provided. The red couch in the sitting room converts to an excellent fold-out comfortable double bed for additional sleeping space.
No.15 Fintra Bay has 2 bedrooms to accommodate up to 4 people.
Bedroom 1: first floor double bedroom ensuite with shower
Bedroom 2: first floor double bedroom
In addition to the ground floor toilet there is a family bathroom located on second floor.
The main bedroom is ensuite with shower enclosure.
