Downings and the Rosguill Peninsula

The village of  Downings itself  is a very popular tourist resort and fishing port with lively pubs and nightlife. It is situated on the beautiful Rosguil Peninsula. This peninsula divides Mulroy Bay and Sheephaven Bay and contains truly spectacular scenery.  The famous Atlantic Drive is a short but very dramatic road around the  Peninsula. The drive is  about 12km long so you can best appreciate it if you cycle or walk. The walk can be comfortably completed in half a day.

The natural landscape of the Rosguil Peninsula also provides the basis for many of the activities that the visitor can enjoy. In addition to an abundance of golden sandy beaches there are many water-based activities in the Downings area - including windsurfing, deep sea diving, sea angling and boat charters. There is also horse riding and hill walking

The Magherabe Leisure Centre in Downings is open to the public and features a swimming pool, sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi, and gym.

Downings has 3 hotels, the Harbour Bar, Goose and Gander Pizza Restaurant & bar, Fisk Restaurant and Galley Restaurant.

The nearby Carrigart Hotel and Bar is now open

Golf

Within 2 km of the holiday home there are two superb championship golf links at Rosapenna -  the Old Tom Morris Course and the Sandy Hills Course.  The St Patrick's Course in Carrigart  is 4 km away and is currently in the process of being redesigned. Within half an hours drive of the cottage there are two more first-rate links courses – Portsalon and Dunfanaghy.

North West Donegal

Within a thirty-minute drive of the holiday home there are numerous things to do and places to visit. You have the majestic Glenveagh National Park and the beautiful Ards Forest Park. The lakeside centre in Dunlewy has something for all the family. In Dunfanaghy there is a workhouse famine museum. Churchill has the famous Glebe House & Gallery as well as the Colmcille Heritage Centre. Letterkenny has all the amenities you would expect to find in a large town - cinemas, museums, theatres, leisure centres, art galleries and excellent shopping.  Tory Island and the ancient walled city of Derry are highly recommended day trips.

For a holiday experience where good food, great beaches and beautiful scenery are all close at hand, look no further than this property - right in the heart of Downings village

What they say

I travel a lot so I'm always looking for interesting places to stay - anything to avoid another carbon copy hotel - and this has got to be one of the best local travel sites I've seen. Plenty of detail, tons of photos, excellent location info and clear pricing - everything I need to make an informed call. Great job and I'll be recommending the site to anyone else I know who's travelling in Donegal.
