Located on an elevated site overlooking Porthaw Bay, 2km to the north of Buncrana, this spacious holiday home has spectacular sea views over Lough Swilly to the hills on the Fanad peninsula.

As the main living areas in the house face westward, you’ll experience the late evening red sky over the hills of Donegal. A short 5 min walk through the glen takes you to a secluded sandy beach and to one of the finest coastal walking paths in the north-west.

Interior

On entering the house the tiled hallway gives you a sense of the spaciousness of the house. To the right of the hallway, there is a tv/games room – perfect for kids and teenagers  (as it is separate from the main living room). A ground floor utility room with exit door and WC also lead off directly from this area. 

Moving through the hallway to the front of the house, you arrive at the kitchen and dining areas which enjoy panoramic sea views. Double patio doors lead from the dining area to the front patio area. To the right of the kitchen is the main living area - its large picture windows take full advantage of the Lough Swilly vista.

Bedrooms

The 3 bedrooms (1 ensuite) and bathroom are located along a corridor from the kitchen. Being located to the front of the house, two of the bedrooms have views over Porthaw Bay and Lough Swilly.

Buncrana

Buncrana is the largest town on the Inishowen Peninsula. Situated on the shores of Lough Swilly, the town is surrounded by outstanding natural scenery. It has a full range of tourist amenities, as well as fine restaurants and lively bars. The town has 2 golf courses, pitch and putt, beach-front children's playpark, cinema, clean safe sandy beaches and many activities for children.

Inishowen

Based at Porthaw bay House you will not find it hard to find something to do - climb the local hills and mountains; take a trip around the Inishowen 100 scenic drive, enjoy live music in the local pubs, golf at Lisfannon or Ballyliffin, fish on the Crana River or visit the wonderful Dunree Military Fort and Museum and Doagh Island Famine Village.

  • Visit the Fort and Military Museum at Dunree (9km)
  • Enjoy some of the many fine sandy beaches in and around Buncrana including Porthaw (5 min walk), Stragill and Lisfannon
  • Visit the historic walled City of Derry (17km) – UK City of Culture 2013
  • Golf  at the North West Golf Club  at nearby Lisfannon (7km). The internationally renowned Ballyliffin Golf Club is just 19km away.
  • Visit the newly renovated Isle of Doagh Famine Village near Ballyliffin. This wondeful attraction depicts life in Donegal at different stages throughout history in an informative and enjoyable tour
  • Take a trip around the famous Inishowen 100. This is one of Ireland's most scenic drives. The route includes dramatic coastal scenery plus a fine collection of ancient forts and monuments, traditional craft centres, and a dozen or so friendly villages. Scenic highlights include the Gap of Mamore, and Malin Head -  Ireland's most northerly point and where filming for the most recent episode of Star Wars took place
  • Use the Lough Swilly ferry to explore the neighbouring Fanad Peninsula
  • Visit the Inishowen Maritime Museum in Greencastle, which includes a state-of-the-art planetarium
  • Go walking on the many coastal pathways, woodland, and hills on the Inishowen Peninsula
  • Go fishing on the Crana River or at the Pollan / Fullerton Dam
  • Visit Grianan of Aileach. This is a 5000 year old  neolithic stone fort located on a hilltop at Burt, with commanding views of loughs Foyle and Swilly.
  • Take the family to Inish Adventures in Moville for kayaking and water-based activities. Choose from sea kayaking, surf kayaking, sailing, stand-up paddling, gorge walking and other activities. Courses for individuals and groups are also available
  • Visit Waines World in Buncrana which provides a world of fun for kids with its enormous play center where children can run amuck for hours while their parents can relax in the comfortable café
