Description of special offer:

27th- 30th of October (Halloween Weekend)

Enjoy a cosy weekend away in the heart of Donegal in this traditional, thatched cottage.

This 300 year old traditional cottage has been tastefully restored to retain its original characteristics including thatched roof, fireplace and original bog oak beams. The cottage is ideally based for touring and enjoying local activities, of which there are many. Ardara heritage town is within 5km and there are many beautiful beaches - Narin blue flag beach is an easy drive.

Golf and Fishing

For golfers, Narin/Portnoo 18 hole golf course is in the vicinity or there is Pitch & Putt at Sandfield for the less serious. Anglers will be spoilt for choice by the local lakes and rivers on offer or you can give horse-riding a go at Loughros Point. The area is renowned for its megalithic standing stones including the large and impressive Kilclooney Dolmen beside the Dolmen Eco Tourism centre, the first of its kind in the Republic of Ireland using renewable energy sources.

For Children

For children, Dolmen Children's Playground provides fun and adventure while for nature lovers, the area has some spectacular beauty: Seskinmore nature reserve is interesting for its wild flora and fauna, and the untamed Glengesh pass makes for a stunning scenic drive. At Maghera, the caves fringe a lovely sandy beach providing a sheltered backdrop for bathers of the Atlantic.

About The Area

The region is renowned for some beautiful cliff walks and the Bluestack Way. In Ardara, visitors can witness interesting local crafts being produced at Triona Design, makers of Donegal Tweed. You can read about the cloth process at the refurbished visitors' centre. Also in the town, the gallery of talented local fine artist Stephen Bennett is a big attraction. While music lovers have a choice of many local pubs serving up a traditional session.

Fans of traditional music will love the Cup of Tae Festival on May Day when the town comes alive with music. In fact, Ardara is famed for its festivals all year round: the Walking Festival in March gets the town on its feet with a selection of scenic guided walks of varying difficulty in the area. The Melting Pot Festival, a multi-cultural celebration of culture, music and food takes place at the end of May and the fascinating Ardara Agricultural Show is scheduled for August. With the Matchmaking Festival and the St Patrick’s Day Parade as well, it's little wonder that the town is nicknamed the festival capital of Donegal.

The historic Donegal Town with its Castle & Abbey ruins is a lovely day out and now includes the added attraction of the Donegal Water Bus which will sail you around Donegal Bay. It gives unique insight into the history and environment of the estuary and passes the local seal colony at the mouth of river.
